Magazine Advert Analysis

The layout of the advert is conventional for pop magazine adverts because the image is the main focus of the whole advert and takes up majority of the page. The image is of Olly himself which shows he is the artist of the album as people would recognise what he looks like. It is typical for pop artists to feature an image of themselves on an album or advert cover as they are promoting themselves as well as their music. The text is laid out simply so it is easy to follow down the page. The font used is bold and is the same font used on the album cover which means the audience will make links between the both. The font size is important for advertising, as seen on this advert the name of the artist is in the biggest font on the poster. This shows how the first thing the audience should see is the image and the name of the artist and this drawn them into wanting to buy the album. The colours used on the magazine advert work well together to appeal to Olly's target audience. The main colours used are light blue and burgundy red. The red used for Olly's name ties in with the red of his braces, this helps the advert to have a colour scheme and to pull it all together. The light blue helps draw people towards the advert as it is a bright colour and can signify calmness which a lot of people would be drawn too. Also, on the advert Olly is promoting himself by including his official website link in attempt that people will go and visit it and find out more about him as an artist.
The layout of the advert is very simple with the image being the centre point and text being fitted around it. The text is easy to read as the colour scheme works well with the font, this means nothing overlaps and the style of the layout works well for promoting Lana's album. The image takes up the majority of the page and is the main focus for this advert. The same image is used for the advert as well as the album cover which allows the audience to make links between them and for Lana it is two forms of promotion. The image is of the artist of herself which shows the audience what the artist looks like and makes her recognisable when she releases albums in the future. This is a typical convention of Lana's albums as she normally features her main image as an image of herself. The colours used in this advert are calming colours of blue and white. This could draw the audience towards the advert because it has welcoming feel about it which could encourage the audience to buy the album. The main text on the advert is the artist's name which is block capital letters, in a bold white font. This shows that after the image her name is the most important text on the advert as by recognising her name the audience could be encouraged to buy her album. Other information included on the advert is the album title, the release date, singles that are included in the album, her official website and the amazon website.

The main image on the magazine advert is different to the album cover. This follows a black and white theme featuring Taylor wearing her trademark shorts with a white shirt and hat. The background appears unpolished, contrary to how Swift is portrayed as. This could be a hint at how Taylor is beginning to branch out of the "sweet, innocent country girl" stereotype and show her audience that she is growing up.
The bird cage sends out a very powerful message as it could be referencing the fact that Taylor has previously felt trapped but now is set free. This album was inspired by previous relationships that she may of felt "trapped" so by pouring all her emotions into writing songs, she now feels free.
At the bottom of the advert, it says where you can buy the album. This is important to have on a magazine advert as the audience are able to instantly know where they can get a copy.
The font and colour for the name of the album and the artist's name is the same for both the album cover and the magazine cover. By keeping this the same, it makes it easier for the audience to identify what is being advertised particularly because the main image is different on the magazine advert.
One of the elements of Andrew Goodwin's theory is the frequent use of notion of looking and voyeurism of the female body. As Taylor is wearing short shorts, she is revealing her enviable long legs. This photo is presenting Swift in a more provocative way, helping her to establish her new image.
By mentioning the hit singles from the album on the magazine advert is a good way of grabbing the audiences's attention as they of heard those songs and enjoyed them so would want to purchase the album.
The main image on the magazine advert is of Demi's face. By having a large image of Demi on the advert allows the audience to instantly recognise who it is. In this photo, Demi has a sophisticated makeup look with her hair blowing in the wind. This would attract her male audience as she appears as a "sex symbol."
The colours and lighting on this advert are very natural, keeping the whole advert very simple and minimalistic.
By repeating Demi's name twice, the audience are even more likely to remember the artist's name as it stands out. "Demi" is in bold putting even more emphasis on her name, allowing it to stand out even more.
Towards the bottom of the advert is other artists that feature on this album. By listing their names could potentially expand Demi's audience because fans of the featured artists may also buy Demi's album.
The image on the advert is also the same image that appears on the front cover. The design is also the same, as the text on the front is displayed in the same places. The only difference with the advert is the white box directly beneath the image which has all the extra information necessary for a magazine advert. By using the same image for both the album front cover and the magazine advert prevents people from getting confused about what is being advertised. They would also easily identify the album in a shop or on an online website because they would've previously seen the same image on the advert.
At the bottom of the advert, it says "In stores now." This is useful to have on magazine adverts as this makes the audience fully aware that they are able to purchase the album straight away without them having to search up when it is released as a lot of people wouldn't do that.
