What is a target audience?
A target audience is the intended group for which something is performed or marketed; the specific group to which advertising is directed at.
Target Audience Profile:
Zayn Malik and Sia
Age
For the main artist in the song, Zayn his target audience would have changed dramatically from his early career of being in One Direction to now being a solo artist. For example, when he was part of 1D his main target audience was mainly either young children or teenage girls. However, with his solo material his genre now has an overlap of Pop and R&B music which results in him having some of his previous target audience but also having a male fan base as well as young adults.
The second artist in the song i have chosen is Sia, her music is mainly the genre of Pop so her music would mainly appeal to the younger audience.

Gender
The gender target audience for Zayn's music would be both male and female. This is because, his previous music from One Direction would mean he would already have a following of young females. Also. from his new music it is likely he would now have more a male following as female because of the style of music and the fact a lot of his songs are explicit would engage with more young adults.
The gender target audience for Sia's music would be prominently young females because of her main genre of music is pop. Her music appeals to young females because of the type of music she creates and the young girls would look up to her and inspire to be like her.

Occupation
The individuals who are likely to listen to this music are students who may have a part time job stereotypically in retail. However, there maybe a few younger fans of this type of music which would just be students.
Media Grouping
The individuals who would listen to Zayn's music would probably be quite artistic as Zayn is really into art and is quite creative with his music and his unique voice. Also, they would probably use a lot of social media because it is very popular in the age of my target audience and they would use it to follow the artist and their career. The films that could be possibly linked to Zayn's music is action films such as Suicide Squad and Spider Man because they have that element of masculinity but also have love story involved in the narrative which links to his music because a lot of Zayn's songs are based around love or heartbreak.

Social Grouping
The social interests my target audience would have would be going to parties, enjoying having a social life and spending as much time as they can with their friends. This also could be that the music helps them through stressful times in their life such as exams, friendship issues etc. This is prime in students lives and therefore music can be used as a support mechanism. The clothing that would be worn by the target audience would be very fashionable and branded as Zayn is very outgoing with his fashion but also likes it to be branded. However, Sia's fashion is very outgoing and unique which could mean some of the target audience may follow the style of unusual, different clothing.
