Music Industry Research

The music industry is the name for the way the music we want to hear is delivered to us. The music industry is split into record labels there are two different types, Major and Independent.

An Major record label is one of the big 3 music labels in the industry which help develop the artist in to becoming hopefully worldwide famous. A major label would be financial supportive of the artist as the label would earn a lot of money. Most major record label sign mostly Pop artists as they are most popular in the music industry and appeal to the public as radio stations mainly play pop music. An example of a Major record label would be, Sony Music. This company support artists such as Calvin Harris, Little Mix, One Direction and Zayn.

One of the main differences between and Major and Independent label is that Major companies have all the resources for producing, manufacturing, distributing, marketing and much more. Whereas, Independent companies would not have as much promotion skills.

An Independent record label is a record label that operates without the funding of outside major record labels. Many commercial bands and musical acts begin their careers on independent labels. Independent record labels are small companies that produce and distribute records. An example of a independent record label is XL Recordings. This company support artists such as Adele, Giggs, Dizzee Rascal and Wiley.

My artist Zayn is apart of the Major record label,Sony Music which he has been part of since he was in One Direction this gives him a lot of support with his career therefore he has had worldwide success in a group and as a solo artist.
